Costs

How we uses our funds, and where our funding comes from.

Costs we incur

All Scout Groups have operating costs to pay, and we often need to replace or purchase new equipment to give our young people the best that we can.

The operating costs we have to pay include:

  • Running the Scout Hall
Electricity (heating and lighting), water and sewerage, maintenance and repair of the building fabric.
  • Weekly activities for each section
Craft materials, badges, activities and materials to support them.
  • Replacement equipment including
Tents, cooking equipment, toys and games.
  • Capitation
Payable for each member of the group that covers the costs of insurance, district operating costs, etc.

We have recently installed CCTV and a new alarm system to help protect our Scout Hall and equipment.

Subs
Our costs are covered by a subscription payment (known as Subs) from each Beaver, Cub and Scout. The current subs for all sections is £13.50 per child per month. Subs are payable regardless of whether your child attends their section meeting or not.

We collect subs via direct debit, setup when a young person joins the group. Collecting subs this way avoids time collecting cash subs at the start of meetings, allowing us to spend more time on activities.

Subs do not cover the cost of activities at weekends, such as camps, sleepovers and activity days.  These activities are optional, and costs for them are only payable (usually in advance) if your child participates in them.
Financial help
We appreciate that sometimes it is hard to make ends meet and if you need a little help with the cost of a camp etc. We will be as flexible as possible and more than willing to spread the cost if that would ease the strain.
